Within that year the land was purchased and Elk Grove Park, consisting of 33 acres of beautiful oaks was made available to the public. Over the years since the founding of the Park in 1904, the land has seen many challenges ranging from irrigation problems to fires.

The District's parks and recreation department manages nearly 100 parks including Elk Grove Park and Emerald Lakes Golf Course and provides recreational programs, preschools, and special events in Elk Grove.

ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - The 2024 Point in Time count, released June 5 by Steps Forward, estimates that Elk Grove has 83 unsheltered people, accounting for 2.1% of the county's unsheltered population.

The original Foulks house, the oldest remaining original residence in the Elk Grove area was moved to its present site, the Elk Grove Stage Stop and House Heritage Park. This home was constructed in 1853 on a ranch located at Elk Grove Boulevard and Bruceville Road.

The town was established in 1850 and its proximity to historic Sutter's Fort made it a crossroads for business, entertainment, mail service and agriculture, as well as home base for gold miners in nearby communities. Elk Grove was incorporated in July 2000, when it became the second largest city in Sacramento County.
